West Tennesseans Run 35 Miles To Support Troops
A group of West Tennesseans are running more than 35 miles Saturday in memory of one of our own American heroes, who was killed overseas two months ago. Navy Seal Aaron Vaughn from Obion County died in the August helicopter crash that was shot down in Afghanistan, along with 29 other American heroes. The purpose of the West Tennessee Patriot Run is to raise money for the national Wounded Warrior Project, which provides services for the people who come back from combat injured. The 35.7 mile run began in Kenton Saturday morning and ended at Pine Hill Park in Three Way. Stops along the way were provided for the runners to rest and hydrate, and were also an opportunity for runners to stop or jump in. The memory of Aaron Vaughn was most definitely recognized on Saturday. “The family has been really thankful, they came out to our prayer vigil last night, they ran in our 5k at the start line this morning, they came in from Florida, the family that doesn’t live here locally came all the way from Florida just to be a part of it and to say thank you for making a difference in other soldiers lives and for honoring their sons,” said event organizer Jennie Keel. Organizers of the run are hoping this can be an annual event to honor local heroes and support this great project.
