UT To Examine Illegal Immigrant Enrollment

Admissions officers from the University of Tennessee system said they plan to discuss a policy that forbids illegal immigrants from enrolling as students.

Yancey Freeman, who is assistant vice chancellor for enrollment services at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, said the topic will be discussed this month at an annual meeting of admissions representatives from the three UT campuses.

Freeman told the Chattanooga Times Free Press that it would be a discussion to see if there’s any need or desire to move forward .

The move comes after a bill proposing to ban illegal immigrants from enrolling at public institutions failed to pass during this year’s legislative session.
