Civil War Exhibit Coming

For the second time this year, the visitors center at Parker’s Crossroads is hosting a traveling Civil War exhibit.

The display focuses on 1861, the year the war began. It highlights the impact of slavery on the country, the fallout from the divisive election of 1860, the start of the Southern succession movement and Tennessee’s gradual shift toward becoming a Confederate state.

The exhibit, along Interstate 40 in the town midway between Nashville and Memphis, is on loan until April from the Tennessee State Library and Archives.

Parker’s Crossroads was the site of a Civil War battle on Dec. 31, 1862.

The visitor’s center previously displayed “Looking Back at the Civil War” exhibit, which was also on loan from the state.
