A Middle Tennessee police officer is recovering after being shot during a traffic stop.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation says Hohenwald city police officer Robert Fransen pulled over a car shortly after 10 p.m. Tuesday and shots were fired from another car that drove by, one of the rounds striking Fransen in the hip.

The officer was released from a hospital after treatment.

In a news release, the TBI said it was charging Carmen Jose Sharp and Tyler Thomas Hunter with attempted criminal homicide.

Hohenwald Police charged the driver Fransen stopped on a drug charge. He is Colby Spears.

Lewis County prosecutor Kim Helper asked the TBI to investigate.
