College Student From Turkey Reacts to Quake

Burak Koc is getting his Masters Degree in Education at Freed-Hardeman University. He was born and raised in Turkey. Koc said, “Of course I was shocked, I was very sorry, I was sad.” He found out about the earthquake while reading an article on-line. Almost his entire family still lives in Turkey. “I heard there are already some countries helping,” Koc said. There have been many deadly earthquakes in Turkey. Koc says the people in his country have to live with the fear of an earthquake happening any day. “In Turkey the earthquake is one of the most natural disasters that happen because we are on the line, like the dangerous line,” he explained. Burak has lived through the horror of an earthquake. He remembers one that killed thousands of people in his country. “We had another earthquake around ten years ago. It was very intense. It happened in Istanbul and I saw how people were suffering there,” he remembered.
