Republican Leaders Host BBQ
Hundreds of hungry politicians and politically minded West Tennesseans gathered at the Jackson Fairgrounds Park, Tuesday night. Madison County Mayor Jimmy Harris as well as other prominent republican leaders in the area hosted an “old fashioned southern BBQ supper.” Close to 400 people were in attendance. The annual event draws republicans and democrats alike. Though republican Congressman Stephen Fincher, of Frog Jump, was scheduled to make an appearance he was absent. However, Lt. Governor Ron Ramsey was there and talked about what is on everyone’s mind, jobs. “Government is about setting an atmosphere that business can grow and prosper,” said Ramsey. “We are always trying to recruit industry from outside the state but about 85 percent of the jobs are created by existing business.” Ramsey added that is why he is focused on keeping regulations low and taxes low to existing businesses can continue to grow. Ramsey said finding a business for the mega site in Haywood County remains one of his top priorities.
