Steward Trial Moved to June 2012
A federal judge has ordered the trial of the accused getaway driver in the 2009 shooting death of Henderson Police Captain Dennis Cagle be rescheduled until next June. Initially, Cheryl Freeman-Steward’s trial was set to begin in January, but a motion for continuance was granted. Court papers showed her attorney is recuperating following a quadruple heart bypass surgery earlier this month. Steward is the wife of Rick Lee Stewart, who changed his not guilty plea to guilty in connection with the fatal shooting. He is scheduled to be sentenced in February. Captain Cagle died from injuries he received in a shooting when he confronted Stewart as he tried to rob the Save-A-Lot grocery store in Henderson.
