Downtown Memphis Cancels Christmas Parade

Downtown Memphis is scrapping its traditional Christmas parade and will use the funds instead to put up decorations, have family festivities and put on a lighting display that bathes Main Street in blue.

Leslie Gower, vice president of marketing for the Downtown Memphis Commission, told The Commercial Appeal that a parade only last three hours, but lighting up the downtown will last eight weeks and offer more benefits for businesses

Last year’s Memphis Holiday Parade also competed with parades held in several Memphis suburbs on the same day.

Jingle on Downtown will begin with a lighting ceremony on Nov. 18. The Main Street Trolley cars that operate downtown will also be decorated and filled with carolers for the event.
