Stolen Car- Follow Up
The robbery of a stolen car would lead authorities on a high speed chase which would end at an unlikely place. “A about 4:35, I noticed that on my security monitors cars coming in,” sad Dan Roberts, master control operator with WBBJ. Authorities said just after four Saturday morning, a resident on Muse Street heard someone crank his Jeep. They said the person pulled out of the driveway heading west on Muse Street toward Muse Park. Police said the driver did not realize the park was closed at night, so he turned around heading east, but saw a police squad car coming from the east. With no where to escape authorities said the driver turned into the driveway which leads to WBBJ. “They (employees) usually come in early to do the morning show, but this car acted strange,” said Roberts as he observed the driver on surveillance cameras. “I saw a car parked behind the security buildings…I thought, that’s odd,” said Roberts. Officers have arrested and charged Astin Hill in connection with the robbery. Hill has been charged with auto burglary, evading arrest and resisting arrest. Police said once Hill ditch the vehicle, he climbed a barbed wire fence and traveled through the woods until he reached the Muse Park basketball courts where police captured him. “It makes you want to keep your eyes open and watch your back,” said Randy McBroom, a neighbor. McBroom said he has burglar alarms on his home and vehicles and uses them. “I think we just have too many kids with too much time on their hand. They don’t have jobs and this is what comes out of it,” said McBroom.
