As cold temperatures return to West Tennessee, so does the need to help the more than 350 homeless families in the area. Today, leaders from Area Relief Ministries and Jackson city councilman Earnest Brooks kicked off the 4th Annual Jackson Hunger Project and the 5th year of the emergency winter shelter program, “Room at the Inn.” The program joins with local churches, giving homeless men a place to eat, sleep and fellowship during the winter months. “When Room-in-the-Inn starts November 1 through April 30, it’s all there is for single men in our city, so during the coldest months of the year, when people can die from the weather, we want to make sure they have a place to be,” said Lisa Peoples, executive director of Area Relief Ministries. The Hunger Project will be collected canned foods, from now until December 17. Last year, the food drive collected more than 20,000 cans, which helped prepare more than 10,000 meals.
