Over 1,000 Union University students, faculty and staff members were busy all across West Tennessee, Tuesday. They were taking part in 70 service projects as part of the university’s ninth annual Campus and Community: A Day of Remembrance and Service. A group of students spent their time cleaning up Jackson’s Muse Park. Those who helped said they could not believe the number of bottles and trash found discarded in the east Jackson park. The annual work day started after tornadoes struck the campus in a span of six years. “After the Jackson community kind of helped us with the tornadoes and they came together and they kind of showed us that love. So, we take this day and we kind of share this love back with the Jackson community,” said Stephen Charlton, a sophomore at Union University. The event also included volunteers working at schools, churches, nursing homes and other locations. The work day is also part of Homecoming Week activities for the Southern Baptist-supported school.
