Sheriff: We Are Searching Everywhere For Missing Woman

On Wednesday, 7 Eyewitness News learned more about the missing mother at the center of a now, four-day search. Her family tells us she and her husband were in the middle of a divorce. Deputies say they are digging into every aspect of this mysterious disappearance. Karen Swift’s oldest son, Preston, was away at college when he got the call from his dad. “He told me that they had reported her missing, very concerned, very upset, asked me to call her several times,” said Preston Swift. But phone call, after phone call, all went unanswered. And even though family members said she was always active, coming and going, working out; after a while, they knew something was not right. “It’s very, very off the wall, very awkward and we just don’t understand. It’s not like her to up-and-leave. She has two little ones she loves dearly, loves us dearly, and she cared for my dad, she did,” said Preston. Although they cared for each other, Preston admits his parents were going through a divorce. “They were in the middle of a divorce. People go through divorces everyday. I never saw any violence, any harmful acts or anything like that. They had their differences, but they both cared about each other,” admited Preston. Officials said there are a lot of unknowns in the 44-year-old missing persons case. Investigators have not said if there was anything inside Swift’s SUV, but it, and its contents are being processed at the TBI Crime Lab in Nashville. The sheriff also confirmed there was activity on her cell phone as late as 5, Sunday morning. “One of the most important things that Preston and myself want to express to everyone if if they saw anybody around her vehicle at Millsfield Highway and Harness Road, of if they know any information about her whereabouts, please contact the Dyer County Sheriff’s Office, said Dyer County Sheriff Jeff Box. Sheriff Box said they are asking Swift’s cell phone provider to help them locate her whereabouts and the ability to access data, including text messages. “We are very concerned and we are very worried, and we want her to come home safely,” said Preston Swift.
