TVA Nuke Worker Seeks Probation
An electrician charged with falsifying inspection records at the Tennessee Valley Authority’s unfinished Watts Bar Unit 2 reactor is seeking probation at his sentencing Thursday in Chattanooga.
Matthew Correll’s attorney said in a court filing that Correll was on a crew that overlooked measuring electrical cables working in the reactor containment structure, where an asbestos suit and respirator had to be worn and temperatures exceeded 100 degrees. The filing said the records were falsified on the spur of the moment when Correll was told to “hurry up and get it done.”
Correll worked for Williams Speciality Services of Tucker, Ga. He has pleaded guilty in a deal with prosecutors.
The guilty plea carries a maximum possible sentence of six months.
A crew supervisor, John E. Delk, has also been charged.
