Help for New Local Businesses
Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam and the state department of Community Development announced the establishment of nine regional entrepreneurial accelerations across the state, one of which is located in Jackson. The accelerations will provide mentoring, education, training, technical support and assistance identifying sources of capital. The governor said the accelerators will be and incredible asset to launch and grow their businesses with mentoring and support. Accelerators will be located in each of nine Tennessee Jobs Base Camps and will help create a network or partnerships for success. “The goal is to help people who want to form businesses, create those businesses and get them up and running in a relatively short period of time and of course the purpose is all about employment,” said Dr. Bruce Blanding, president of Jackson State Community College. New businesses will have to apply for a grant that will also include matching local support. The southwest region accelerator will be located on the campus of Jackson State Community College.
