Information Still Limited in Titan Tire Deal
Titan Tire still is not saying a lot about their recent purchase of the Goodyear tire plant in Union City last Thursday. On Tuesday, Titan released a statement with some details about their plans for the Goodyear plant. The news release stated Titan Tire purchased Goodyear for approximately $9 million, they have immediate access to the factory, and have not agreed not to produce any tires for passenger vehicles. For now, Titan says it has not decided how it will utilize the 2.1 million square foot facility, other than to store current inventory. “I’m still excited about Titan coming to Union City. I thought it was very vague on purpose for making this announcement, because they don’t know where their going in their business. I just hope and pray they will have some productivity out of this facility. Any job that we have now is more than we had before,” says Obion County Mayor Benny McGuire. The news release also indicated Goodyear has until June of next year to remove any equipment the company would like to keep. “I just hope they don’t make a lot of promises they don’t fulfill, like Goodyear did, that’s my main concern,” says former Goodyear employee, David Tittle. Leaders with the Union City Career Center said hopeful employees must be patient. Titan appears far from being settled in their new building. Sill, many job seekers in the area are actively filling out applications and information so they are fire in line when job opportunities are listed. “I think we’ve got better things to come just with them being here, maybe some more coming, so I feel good about it,” says Mayor McGuire.
