Thanks to the work of some students as North Side High School, several West Tennessee families will have food on their tables for the holidays. North Side’s ROTC began a food drive on November 1 and asked all the school’s clubs to get involved. Their instructors said they set a goal of 1,000 pounds of canned goods, but in just a few weeks, they collected more than 1,500 pounds. Tuesday, they donated all the cans and dry goods to RIFA. “It’s always really good to see a school come together like this and to help out their community,” said John Winfree, a RIFA Volunteer Coordinator. “And to show they care not only about themselves, but about their community. So, we really appreciate it a lot.” “This time last week, we had about 200 cans donated we had counted and I was getting a little worried that we would not meet our goal but on Friday of last week, when they all called the students to bring the cans in, they just kept pouring in, so I was really surprised we met 1,500,” said Chief Master Sergeant Barron, an ROTC instructor. School leaders said this is the first year North Side has done a school-wide food drive.
