On a day when tables are traditionally full, it is more difficult than ever to have Thanksgiving on a budget. According to the American Farm Bureau Federation the average price of a Thanksgiving Feast has gone up almost $5 this year, the largest jump in at least 15 years. The biggest cost increase is for turkeys, costing on average almost $4 dollars than last year. Regional Inter Faith Association director Lisa Tillman said the high food prices could be tied to the fact that they have had a 40 percent increase this year in children that qualify for their snack back pack program, a program that provides weekend meals for kids not getting enough food at home. “We have people that have always struggled or people that are just going through hard times as we speak so it could be your next door neighbor. It could be anyone, said Tillman RIFA officials said their soup kitchen will be open on Thanksgiving as always, and is open to anyone that shows up.
