Charges Filed In Bear Cub Shooting
The shooting of two black bear cubs in Blount County has led to criminal charges against two men and has raised the ire of advocates for the black bear population in East Tennessee.
The Tennessee Wildlife Agency cited 19-year-old Corey Martin Campbell and 18-year-old Jesse Lee McClellan for hunting from a motorized craft, spotlighting a bear and two counts of hunting in a closed season.
The Knoxville News Sentinel reported the two men are scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 30 after their arrest on Nov. 10 for criminal trespassing .The records indicated that the men used a spotlight on the bears before shooting them.
George Duggan, a volunteer with Appalachian Bear Rescue in Townsend, called the shooting “heinous.”
