KY Says No Lottery Tickets For Kids Christmas
Kentucky Lottery officials are asking parents to consider the long-term effects of giving lottery tickets and games as Christmas gifts to children.
Officials note that anyone under 18 is prohibited by law from purchasing Kentucky Lottery tickets and that giving the games to children could encourage risky behavior on gambling in the future.
Lottery officials say that since 2006, the number of public school students who gambled in their lifetimes is lower according to data from the 2010 Kentucky Incentive for Prevention survey of almost 120,000 public school students released by REACH of Louisville.
In 2010, the lifetime rate of gambling for money or possessions was 20.4 percent among sixth graders, 34.5 percent among eighth graders, 38.3 percent among sophomores, and 38.8 percent among seniors.
