Missing Kayakers Found Safe

A rescue official says three men who failed to return from a kayaking trip near Chattanooga have been found safe.

The men did not return home after going into the Pocket Wilderness in Hamilton County on Sunday afternoon.

Amy Maxwell of Hamilton County Emergency Services said the three were spotted walking out of Pocket Wilderness trails wet and hungry Monday afternoon. They appeared to be in good shape and refused medical attention.

Small streams were swollen following heavy rain in the Chattanooga area.

Maxwell identified them as 22-year-old Cody Stokes, 23-year-old Jason McCroskey and 35-year-old David Levitt. She quoted Levitt as saying they began hiking back to their car Sunday but darkness fell so they camped and waited until daylight.
