Drugs Seized in Gibson County Traffic Stop

Two men are jailed after a traffic stop resulted in drug arrests. According to Gibson County Sheriff Chuck Arnold, deputies on patrol Tuesday morning stopped a vehicle driving erratically on U.S. Highway 45E near Bradford. During the stop, officers reportedly noted an odor believed to be marijuana coming from the vehicle. Further investigation found the operator‘s license to be revoked. Derek A. Welch, 22, of Martin, was arrested at the scene. At the time of the arrest, deputies said they found approximately one pound of a green leafy substance which field tested positive for marijuana along with hydrocodone pills in the vehicle. Welch is charged with Driving on a Revoked Driver‘s License, Possession of Schedule VI Marijuana with Intent to Resale, and Possession of a Schedule II Drug (hydrocodone). The Sheriff’s Department also charged a passenger in the vehicle. Gregory A. Bolton, 22, of Martin faces a charge of Possession of Schedule VI Marijuana. Both were processed at the Gibson County Correctional Complex and released on $5,000 and $3,500 bonds respectively. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for December 6th in Gibson County General Sessions Court at Trenton.
