JPD Gives Tips for Preventing Auto Burglary
Police said when it comes to being a victim of crime, there are ways t make your self less appealing to criminals, especially during the holiday season when car break-ins go up. Jackson Police said on Black Friday alone, they took reports for 15 car break-ins. Officers said by using common sense and making sure everything from you purchases to your purse to your electronics are out of sight could make a big difference as to whether a thief targets you. “Don’t leave bags, things that you’ve purchased. Don’t walk back out to the car and leave them in the car,” said Capt. Steve Overton with the Jackson Police Department. “Either get in the car and go somewhere else and put them in the trunk and come back or something like that, or take them home.” Captain Overton emphasized moving your car if you put items in the trunk. That is because he said criminals are wising up and will still break into your car and pop your trunk, if you walk back into a store.
