Crockett County Investigates Cattle Deaths
The Crockett County Sheriff’s Department said they have never seen anything like this. In the past four weeks someone has shot and killed five cows near Maury City. “We have not figured out why they are targeting this specific pasture or cattle, yet we have questions that are unanswered about it, ” said Det. Allan Gilliland of the Crockett County Sheriff’s Department. On November 11, investigators said the first cow was shot and killed, On November 18, another cow was killed. The day after Thanksgiving three cows on the property were killed. This past Friday, a cow was shot at. “It’s kind of hard in a situation like this to pinpoint what type of person would be doing this. Whether it be someone who is just an avid hunter or just your average person,” said Gilliland. The cattle owner has offered a $1,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest of the person responsible for the killing of the animals. “I know the particular area is real secluded. There are public roads on two sides of the area. It appears to us they don’t care what direction they are shooting. They are just shooting,” said Gilliland. The first two cows were worth $1,000 each. Three other cows killed were worth $800 each.
