An organization that oversees issues related to economic development in several West Tennessee counties held an open house Wednesday afternoon. The Southwest Tennessee Development District opened its doors to the media. Leaders with the organization said their goal is to promote the renewal and revitalization of both rural and urban communities, meaning the availability of more jobs for West Tennesseans. “(The) continuation of funding of the mega site in Haywood County has been huge for this region,” said Joe Barker, executive director of SWTDD. “It at least gives us hope on creating a number of jobs over there and then I think the other thing is the fact that the leadership in the communities that we serve have been very in tune with their constituents and provided projects that were very much needed.” The district along with the Regional Economic Development Initiative, or REDI and the Area Agency on Aging and Disability serves West Tennesseans in eight counties.
