Pet Owners Splurge at Christmas

We are now about two weeks from Christmas and it turns out people are not the only ones with presents under the tree. A new survey by Pet Plan found eight out of 10 pet owners are planning to splurge on their four-legged friends. 28 percent of them said they will spend $50 or more on those presents. The gifts range from tasty treats and toys to custom clothing, spa days and even crystal-encrusted collars. The findings come as no surprise to local pet store owners who have already seen their fair share of shoppers. “We are selling a lot of indestructible toys, a lot of treats and chew bones that last a long time, said Kindall Smith, owner of Tail Waggerz in Jackson. “Anything that is a good price for their budget.” Smith said just Friday, she had a customer spend $140 on their pet. She said her average customer spends $75, but often times that includes specialty food.
