Several small business owners in McKenzie are hoping to be granted some money to make the outside of their stores look much better. As part of a $15,000 Tennessee Downtown grant…McKenzie city leaders have decided to divide the money among downtown businesses. Several business owners picked up applications and took part in a workshop to learn how they could qualify for up to $3,500. Leaders said the grants awarded must go to the exterior of the businesses in order to give downtown McKenzie a more pleasant look. Store owners say improvements to their buildings are much needed. “A lot of the windows are falling out because of the age of the building and it just hadn’t been taken care of over the years and now that I own it I’d love to update it,” said Salon and Day Spa owner Greg Lamb. Once the applications are in, the steering committee will determine what each business will be awarded. The renovations should be complete by June 2012.
