Paducah Telling Homeless To Pack Up
Homeless people who stay in a tent city in Paducah have been told to leave or face arrest.
Mayor Bill Paxton said at a City Commission meeting Tuesday night that he would meet with an advocate for the camp Wednesday, but would not guarantee people who were staying there Wednesday afternoon wouldn’t be arrested.
Police posted an eviction notice Tuesday afternoon, giving residents of the tent city 24 hours to comply, according to The Paducah Sun
City officials said heaters being used in some tents pose a danger and the encampment doesn’t comply with city codes.
Commissioner Gerald Watkins urged compassion and argued 24 hours was insufficient time for compliance.
