A Humboldt man is behind bars again, just one month after police said he was released from jail after serving a four-year sentence for burglary. Trenton police arrested Damon Samples, who they are calling a serial burglar, after they said he broke into two area businesses – the Little General Store and Deaton’s Market Place. Samples allegedly cut a hole in the back of Deaton’s Market Place to get inside, and cut the phone lines leading into the building. Police said he stole an undetermined amount of money from the ATM machine and cigarettes. A few days earlier, investigators said Samples stole lottery tickets from Little General. They contacted the state lottery office, and learned who tried to redeem the stolen tickets. “Our business people work hard every day for what they get and it just makes it that much more worse when somebody is out there stealing their profits, so it was extremely important for us to get him back off the streets again,” Chief Will Sanders said. Samples remains in the Gibson County Jail on $100,000 bond. He will appear in Trenton Municipal Court on January 13.
