Juvenile Curfew Proposal Pushed To February
The city council will wait at least one more month before re-considering a juvenile night time curfew for the city of Jackson. At Tuesday night’s agenda review session, Councilman Scott Conger, who submitted the proposed ordinance, asked that the item be removed from December’s meeting agenda in order to allow more time for local leaders to gather statistics on the matter. Conger does plan to re-introduce the ordinance in February’s meeting. The curfew ordinance would require minors younger than 16 to not be in a public place without an authorized adult between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. on weekdays. For minors between 17 and 18 years old, the times are 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. In March of last year, the council struck down the proposal by a vote of 5 to 3.
