Renewable Energy Company Coming to Hardeman County
Hardeman County officials said a renewable energy company plans to open facilities in Middleton, Whiteville and possibly Bolivar. “We’re still looking at somewhere in the (range of) 200 to 300 job opportunities in Hardeman County,” said Mayor Willie Spencer. Mayor Spencer said Altgen, a company based in Illinois, has signed an agreement with Middleton to build a $36 million facility. He said the Hardeman County plants will convert used tires into bio-diesel fuel. Middleton Mayor Vernon Henderson said the city has agreed to provide land for the site. He said Altgen will pay his city a recurring $400,000. Mayor Spencer said Altgen has plans to also open plants in Whiteville and Grand Junction. “You saw the bar inside how long it is. Everyday it was a line full of to-go orders,” said Patrick Mitchell, a local business owner. Mitchell said he owns a restaurant which his family and friends have operated for more than 20 years. He said the closing of plants in the area has created a hardship on the local economy. “With Sequential closing and a new one opening up makes it is better revenue for the town,” he said. Mayor Henderson said Altgen plans to break ground on the Middleton facility in June of 2012.
