FHU Teaching Language to Help in Haiti Missions
Learning the language of people in need of help. Starting January 23, Freed-Hardeman University will offer a Introduction to Creole class. The class will meet every Monday from 6-8 p.m., ending May 11. Jesse Robertson has been to Haiti twelve times. “It is unique in West Tennessee that a nation as small as Haiti you would find there local language taught in West Tennessee, “said Robertson. Not only students can attend the Creole class, members of the community are welcome to take the class for a fee of $125. Amy Brewster is the teacher. “Here in Henderson we have a couple of churches active in Haiti missions. They go the Haiti regularly so I thought this would be a great opportunity to offer them some extra knowledge so when they go they can talk to the Haitian people,” said Brewster. Robertson was there before the earthquake and after the earthquake. “At this point with the building and some changes how things we built, people are probably at this point a little better off than they were before the earthquake,” said Robertson.
