The History Behind Dr. Martin Luther King Drive
There are hundred of streets named after Dr, Martin Luther King Jr. across the nation. WBBJ wanted to see how Jackson’s very own Dr. Martin Luther King Drive came about. 7 Eyewitness News talked to some residents involved in changing the street once known as Market Street to Dr. Martin Luther King Drive in the 60s. “It was important because his legacy is still being remembered, and all that he did and all that we were able to do locally is still being remembered,” said NAACP member Nell Huntspon. Members of the NAACP at the time said it was a long process not only presenting proposals to the city but deciding what would be the best place for the honorary street.
