7 Eyewitness News has learned how much back salary Butch Mitchell, the former Madison County Assistant Chief Deputy will get a deal worked out between attorneys for Mitchell and the county. Last November, a judge ruled Mitchell should be reinstated with back pay because of his 2005 firing by Sheriff David Woolfork. Tuesday, Madison County Commission members approved the settlement which amounts to $493,620.85. 23 commissioners approved the figure, with one passing and one absent. As a term of the settlement, attorneys said Mitchell has agreed to resign his current position with the department. As of late Tuesday afternoon, Sheriff Woolfork said he had not received Mitchell’s letter of resignation. Mitchell will be paid from the local purpose fund.
