Members of the Benton County Solid Waste board met Tuesday to vote on a request by the Environmental Waste Solutions’ landfill to expand their operation in the county. “We voted to not let the EWS expand their landfill and move to that area,” said Commissioner Russell King of Benton’s County’s 1st District. Commissioner King said EWS requested an additional 218 acres for the expansion. He said the company did not go through the proper channels when they originally moved to the area. “They just bought their permit and moved in on us,” he said. Residents in the area said they are pleased with the committee’s decision. “Very happy with it. I hope it sticks,” said Benton County resident Jeff Drinkwater. Commissioner King said his committee has 90 days to provide the state with the reason for their vote.
