Titan Tire Officials Visit Union City

Wednesday, for the first time, the new owners of the Goodyear plant in Union City talked specifics about their plans for the future of the building and hiring new workers. Titan Tire officials said they have occupied the building for about 30 days; moving equipment in and out, doing some maintenance work, all while Goodyear employees continued to vacate the building. Heartbreaking, was the word Titan official, Bill Campbell, used many times when he described the scene inside the old Goodyear building. “When you come into a facility like this and you see it being taken apart, literally, is very heartbreaking,” said Titan Tire chairman, Bill Campbell. But, Campbell said the heartbreak will not last long, because Titan Tire has been known for taking broken businesses, like Goodyear, and turning them into thriving businesses. “We’re out of the box thinkers and we get real creative in doing things,” said Campbell. Which is what they are doing with the huge space. The extra space Titan has in the 2 and a half million square foot building will be leased out to local businesses. A large portion of the building will be inhabited by Titan, for things such as storage and equipment repairs. Campbell hopes the employees and businesses involved with Titan will be from West Tennessee. “To do as much locally as we can, because we’d like to see the local folks get the advantage of what we’re doing.” Titan Tire leaders said the company is here to generate jobs, not take them away. They hope by the end of the year to employ 300 people.
