After nine months in jail, Chanda Franks is a free woman. The former Haywood High School Coach was in Haywood County Circuit Court today. Franks had a big smile on her face moments before entering a guilty plea to five counts of aggravated statutory rape and coercion of a witness. She was released for time served in jail, Monday afternoon. Mark Donahoe is her attorney. “It was a long difficult case that involved several hearings,” said Donahoe. Earlier this month in Madison County the Franks, 35, pled guilty to three counts of aggravated statutory rape and coercion of a witness involving the same 14 year-old girl. Donahoe said, “She will be on probation from this day forward doing a six year period of probation. No more court proceedings in Madison County or Haywood County. This finishes the case.” According to her attorney Mark Donahoe, Franks is now looking for a job. “I know as part of the requirements she’s gonna need to find employment and that’s a reasonable requirement and that will be her next big event next big thing,” said Donahoe. As part of the plea agreement, she must have no contact with the victim, she can not attend school sporting events and must register as a sex offender. Donahoe said, “She is glad to be able to be released today. She looks forward to getting out seeing her parents. She looks forward to getting back to a normal life.”
