Storms Leave Damage In Decatur County
Many West Tennesseans spent Monday cleaning up after strong storms ripped through the area, Sunday night and into Monday morning. Winds topping more than 60 miles per hour ripped through Decatur County Sunday night ripping off roofs and damaging homes and property. “These gusty winds can uproot or even snap a tree,” said Decatur County Emergency Management Kevin Cagle. That is exactly what happened to the Cagles’ home on Highway 412. The winds were so gusty, they knocked over a tree causing damage to their home and totaled a Jeep. Chance McMahon, a resident of the home, said he was watching TV around 10 Sunday night when the power went out and the wind started gusting. ” I heard it sound like the front door ripped off, and so I came out. I got close and looked outside and seen the tree,” said McMahon. He said he immediately woke everyone up in his home to move to safety. “It was nerve wrecking just knowing we could still be in danger, ” said McMahon. Despite all the damage officials said no one was physically hurt, and they are grateful.
