An East Madison County business has been burglarized for the fourth time in seven years. Monday morning a thief broke in at J & W Tobacco Store on Beech Bluff Road. Deputies made a security check on this store at 4:35 a.m all was well at the time. The burglary took place between 4:35 and 7:30. “We feel like we have somebody that is watching us as much as we are looking for them,” said Madison County Sergeant Shane Barnes. In the back of the building is where the burglar cut a hole in the building and came in. “What I can tell now it’s gonna take somebody with upper body strength but slender, possibly 6 foot to 6 foot 2 in height,” Barnes said. A security camera was ripped off the wall, but investigators have the tape. The burglar stole cash, cigars, cigarettes and a hand gun. “There is no record of the hand gun so he could sell it on the street, pawn it anything he could do with the handgun,” said Barnes. The burglary is similar to the one that happened just feet away last month at the Dollar General Store. “We think this is connected with other burglaries of Dollar General and small grocery type stores in Crockett County,” said Barnes.
