KY Not Worried About Flooding
Despite rising rivers, transportation officials see little similarity to last spring’s widespread flooding.
Traffic on the lower Ohio River is restricted because of high water that continues to rise rapidly. However, Robert Dillingham of the U.S Army Corps of Engineers said Wednesday the river flood warning issued for the coming week by the National Weather Service bears little resemblance to the situation a year ago, according to The Paducah Sun .
Speaking from his office in Nashville, Tenn., Dillingham said he knew of no communities in danger of flooding and said the Cumberland and Tennessee Rivers still could be further impounded with 15 feet of storage left in Lake Barkley and Kentucky Lake.
NWS forecaster Kelly Hooper in Paducah said the rivers are high because of saturated soil from 2011 and ongoing rainfall upstream.
