A Night With Denise George
A local church kicked off Black History Month Thursday night with a program on a church bombing in Birmingham during the beginning of the Civil Rights Movement. Writer Denise George spoke to Mother Liberty CME Church about two books she has written about black history – one on the Birmingham church bombing and another on the first African American lawyer to go inside a Birmingham courtroom. George said that same lawyer was also Martin Luther King Jr.’s attorney. “I hope people will take February Black History Month and will just stop and just reflect and read and remember how many people fought for the freedoms we have today,” George said. About 70 people attended George’s presentation.
