Lane Students Protest Poor Security

This video is no longer available.

Thursday morning, Lane College students responded to last night’s murder by taking to the streets protesting against violent crimes on their campus. Students showed up in front of Bray Hall in hopes faculty and staff would hear what they call a “cry for help.” They said they want the schools president, Dr. Wesley McClure to take action in making the campus more secure. Although there is security on the grounds, students feel it is not sufficient enough. Several students said the main problem is the security’s inability to keep people off of the private college’s property from surrounding neighborhoods. “A lot of things have been happening on our campus and our president has not taken action and us as a student body are fed up,” said India Vinson, a Lane College Senior. “When we come to school we wanna feel safe, we wanna have fun and it hasn’t been like that for a while.” 7 Eyewitness News wanted to get Dr. McClure’s response to the protest but our multiple calls and messages were not returned.
