Senator Lowe Finney Hosts Jackson Town Hall Meeting
Dozens of Jackson residents came out to city hall Thursday night for a town hall meeting hosted by State Senator Lowe Finney (D). About 35 people were there to ask Senator Finney questions about the state budget, legislation and issues concerning them. Finney also focused on a proposed bill, which he said would make adjustments to how teachers are paid, but make classroom sizes larger. He said students perform better in smaller classrooms, and some residents there agreed. “I do think teachers need to be paid more, but the most important thing is our students,” said Jackson resident Shirley Hays. “Our students need good, quality education. They need to be able to pass a test so they can go to college and sustain themselves and maintain themselves in college and they need to become college graduates.” Finney also talked about the Tennessee Tech Program, and the state’s prescription drug budget.
