Escaped Inmate Caught In Hardeman County
A Hardeman county inmate who was on the loose since Thursday, has been caught. Authorities said the escapee was a “model inmate”, front office trustee, and was to be released in March from jail. He was on medical furlough, but when he never returned, officials said they started to search the area. Sheriff John Doolen said the Hardeman County Jail received a tip from an anonymous caller who said Robert Bryant was not planning to return, and was headed to East Tennessee, where he apparently had a newborn child. Authorities had no luck finding Bryant until late Friday night. They found him at a McDonald’s in Selmer. When officials arrived, they said he fled the scene. While there, Elizabeth Foster was arrested for attempting to help Bryant flee the area. About half a mile down the road, officers caught Bryant in a wooded area. “All he said was he couldn’t get no help. I don’t understand what that meant, but he also appeared to be intoxicated or high,” said Sheriff Doolen. Sheriff Doolen added that Bryant had a criminal past of theft, burglary, aggravated assault, failure to appear, and was in state prison for attempted murder. Authorities said without the help of anonymous tips and the McNairy County and Selmer officials it could have taken a lot longer to catch Bryant.
