Jackson-Madison County’s West Middle School made history, Monday by breaking ground on the first football field at a middle school in the district. Principal Ricky Catlett said a football field is just the first phase in creating an entire athletic complex at the campus. Next, he hopes to add bleachers and eventually a baseball and softball field. Though he would not say how much the project costs, he said community donations are making it possible. “We have a lot of people in our community that are willing to do whatever it takes for our students and teachers and staff and I’m willing to do whatever it takes,” said Ricky Catlett, principal of West Middle School. “We hope to be playing on game at least here next year.” Catlett said they expect the football field to be completed this fall.
