Jackson Police Train with Tasers
Jackson Police officers will soon have a new crime fighting tool on their belts. 7 Eyewitness News was able to sit in on in-service training, Tuesday as some officers , who will carry the non-lethal weapons experienced what it was like to be hit with the charge of a taser. Though several other police and sheriff’s departments already use tasers, Jackson just recently approved the weapons for its officers. “Anywhere this device has been used the cities have noticed a significant decrease in, notably injuries to officers but also injuries to suspects, those have decreased, so anytime, you know, we can keep our officers from getting hurt, that’s a win-win situation for us,” said Lt. Mike Siler, a certified taser instructor. The department told 7 Eyewitness News training with the tasers will continue for the next seven week.s There are currently no tasers in the field.
