Police Release More Details in Tuesday Murder

Jackson Police said they now know more concerning the murder of Lionel Deshun Harris of Marion, Arkansas who was found dead Tuesday in a parking lot in the 300 block of North Highland near Crescent Street. Investigators said a preliminary autopsy shows Harris died of multiple blunt force injuries to the head. Police said they are looking at Rueben Fairfield, 26, of Jackson as a person of interest, but have yet to find him. Authorities said Fairfield’s last known address is in the 200 block of West Grand Avenue in Jackson. Investigators have not said how Harris knew Fairfield, nor have they released a possible motive, but said the incident does not appear to be a random crime. Police said the initial call came through as a burglary in process. “I hear somebody pulling on the door and we all ran and call the police,” said Dean Shaw, owner of Jamaican Beautiful Braids. Shaw said she called police when she heard the knock at the door. “I thought they were going to come in and kill us.” Officers said they arrived on the scene around 7:30, Tuesday night to find Harris’ lifeless body lying on the ground. They said witnesses reported seeing two men chasing Harris shortly before the beating. “I think it’s a terrible thing for the community. It just devastates the people around here. I’m sure of it.” said Kenny Maclin of California who said he grew up in Jackson and left in 1958. Investigators describe Fairfield as around 5 feet 9 and approximately 220 pounds. If you have seen him, you are asked to call Jackson Police Department at (731) 425-8400 or Crime Stoppers at (731) 424-8477 (TIPS).
