Police Search For Storage Unit Burglars
In the past three weeks in Hardin County, thieves have burglarized two different storage companies, stealing items from several units. The latest happened on Tuesday, and has investigators questioning if the same thief is responsible for both. The owners of Clement’s Storage Rental in Savannah would not talk to 7 Eyewitness News on camera, but said they found seven of their units’ pad locks broken Tuesday, and their fence damaged – quite similar to the other storage unit break-in three weeks ago. A.D. Storage owner Ronnie Deshazier has lost two customers since thieves broke into his business three weeks ago. And now he has had to spend thousands to repair not just his business, but his camper, too. “It’s a sick feeling,” Deshazier said. “Not just for the things that are taken. It’s kind’ve bad for business when people hear that you’ve been broken into, but at the same time, this could happen anywhere.” He said the burglars damaged a boat, RV, and stole $1500 worth of electronics from his camper. They even broke the pad locks, likely with bolt cutters, to 15 of his storage units. “Not sure exactly what all was taken out of those. I think it was minimal. The damage to the campers and boat was pretty outrageous,” Deshazier said. And since, he is encouraging renters to switch to disk locks. He has also had to fix his fence, add more lighting, and is considering security cameras, too. “It’s tragic. I just hope that maybe somebody knows something that could call in, give a tip and maybe catch these folks, and maybe nobody else will have to suffer damage like I’ve suffered here.” Deshazier told 7 Eyewitness News police could not find any fingerprints, but they did find some blood on his camper. Anyone with information on any of the break-ins is asked to call the Savannah Police Department at (731) 925-3200.
