Union City Plant for Sale; Jobs in Question
Uncertainty for more than 200 workers at a Union City plant, as company officials said they were looking into inquires from those interested in purchasing the plant. According to Lennox Hearth Product directors, the local fireplace plant was up for sale. Although her husband worked for Lennox, Dana Goodman still had a smile on her face. “I don’t get nervous of the future of the company.” She said it was because of what the company told her husband. “That there have been people who want to look at the plant.” Goodman said plant leaders told their employees about a company being interested in buying the building. “People coming in interested already, Lennox never really put the sign up for sale in the yard.” According to Lennox Hearth Products director, Cynthia Baker, the business is pursuing strategic alternatives for Lennox, confirming its intention to sale the company. “Hopefully if they do, somebody else will come in and take over the business,” said Obion County Mayor Benny McGuire. McGuire added that phones were ringing off the hook on Monday in concern. “The parking lot was kind of empty, and they were all calling me and saying, ‘hey have they closed already?’ We checked it out and found out they’re taking a few days out of this month because they don’t need the productivity.” Vice President and General Manager for Lennox, Wendy Howells stated, “It is business as usual. We have a solid strategy for serving our valued customers and growing the business. We look forward to successfully serving the hearth market for years to come.”
