Car Accident Kills Humboldt Woman

The Madison County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a car crash at the intersection of Cotton Grove and Leepers Lane Saturday morning. The accident left one Humboldt woman dead. Officials charged 21 year old Matthew D. Richardson with driving under the influence and vehicular homicide. Deputies said at around 3 a.m., Richardson was driving a Dodge Ram pick up truck on Cotton Grove when he lost control of his vehicle. According to authorities, the car overturned and threw both Richardson and the passenger. Twenty one year old Misty Dawn Poteete was pronounced dead at the scene, and Richardson was treated and released from the Jackson Madison County General Hospital. Poteets’s body was transported to the Medical Examiner’s office in Nashville to determine the cause of death. Authorities said Richardson is no stranger to crime. He has a criminal history of theft of property, simple possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
