Should the temperature drop and roads begin to freeze, the Tennessee Department of Transportation said they are prepared. TDOT officials said their 29 salt bins in the West Tennessee area with 25,000 tons of salt and more than 400,000 tons of salt brine. Even with some brine already down on highways, officials said the crews will be on duty and ready to go on moment’s notice. “It’s just really a coin toss there. If the rain starts coming in first then we can just kid of, strategically place our salt trucks around and start with our, spreading salt as it freezes, if it freezes. If the temperatures get down enough and we’ll push the slush and the snow away as needed,” said Nichole Lawrence, Community Relations Officer with TDOT. “If you are having to go out ,don’t crowd our plows. Let them do their job to push the snow and the slush off the bridges and overpasses and all along our highways.” TDOT has more than 180 plow-salt trucks they can put on the road if needed.
